K-Style is an input-density game: butterflies and slash shots ask for jump, slash, block and weapon swaps in tight rhythm. Default layouts were designed for a 2003 casual shooter, not for what the community turned the game into — which is why “what are your binds?” has been a standard r/gunz question for two decades.

The Principles (Not a Prescription)

There is no single correct layout — veterans’ setups differ — but the consensus principles are stable:

• Block must be instant. It is the timing-critical input in the butterfly loop. Put it on a mouse side button or a key your fingers already rest near; reaching for it breaks the rhythm
• Weapon swaps on close keys. Slash shots include a swap mid-motion; number-row reaches are too slow for double-shotgun play
• Keep dash on movement double-taps until fluent. Some players later bind a dedicated dash; learn the classic way first so tutorials map onto your hands
• Don’t copy a pro layout wholesale. Hand size and mouse button count vary; steal ideas, not entire configs

Testing a Layout
